A step back in time
Jan 2020
This is such a brilliant little museum, run by volunteers. It is housed in the original airport building and it is fascinating to see how things have changed in what is a relatively short period of time. A great deal of thought and effort has been put into setting up the museum and it's brilliant. You can see the air traffic control part, the cafe area as well as examples of the uniforms worn by the airline staff. There is a good book collection and some excellent posters as well as a very thought-provoking cabinet showing the kinds of items that were confiscated. When we visited there was also an excellent display of aircraft and airport related models, all made from recycled plastic. There were some excellent little booklets available too, aimed at children. It's a wonderful little museum.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visits to this little piece of aviation history. Spent a good hour looking at the various exhibits, although most were in Spanish there were also some which had English translation too. There were some helpful staff who were also able to explain further. The building is so small and in a lovely architectural style...and entry is free!!

Ring ahead, often closed with no notice or closed for school parties

we came one day, turned away due to the staff having to work over at the airport, came next day and were told we could only be 15 minutes MAXIMUM due to a group of school children coming round, the place seemed interesting in the fleeting visit we had but the whole museum is just in Spanish, no translation boards and no english booklet to read. Object out in car park area but no explanation or signage for them. This could be excellent, but was disappointing. It's free entry, but I think they could charge a couple of Euros or ask for donations to then pay for the English boards and get a bigger interest.

Great museum of aviation in Lanzarote

This museum deserves more attention. Housed in the original airport there is a large number of items on display. We spent just about 2 hrs there but my husband and I are both aviation buffs 🙂The staff are lovely and freely available to get mote information from.
I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Lanzarote Airport museum
May 2019 • Couples
Lanzarote airport museum was a great morning out.
It is free entry opens 10:00 am to 14:00 pm.
It is accessible from bus terminal 1/2 at the Lanzarote airport.
The building itself is the original airport that served Lanzarote- hard to believe as it’s so small!
The museum takes you through its timeline and shows how tourism has played such an important role in the Lanzarote which we know today.
The museum guide “Maria” was absolutely brilliant and answered all the questions honestly and with great knowledge.
I found others walk in and walk out - if they had have been bothered to ask about the history as me and my partner did they would have been treated to historical video clips and images from the good old days.
Access was great for all.
Clean toilets .
Plenty of pamphlets in most common languages.
This should pass a good few hours but not a day out.

Enjoy!

Fabulous place

Visited on Friday. Me and my partner had a private tour as there were no other visitors at the time. The museum guide Maria was very friendly and knowledgable. Maria answered all questions about the history of the airport and had some old photos of Lanzarote. We spend more than an hour and a half at the museum. Small place but very interesting. You can see photos of the old airport and learn about the lifestyle before the tourism started. You can see the building where the Airport was and photos of the very first runaway. The museum is open 10.00 till 14.00. You can get to the place from both terminals 1/ 2 just the walk would be slightly longer. It is a must visit place.

We spotted this while searching 'things to do' in Lanzarote. It is the original airport that opened in the mid 1940's. amazing to think that it all starts so small. They have a history of the airport, the main exhibits are shown in what was the departure lounge. There are uniforms from the eras displayed and you can visit the control tower where it shows photographs of the original desk and controls used - which are still there. Quite scary when you see how limited the equipment was to Brin a plane into land. Well worth a visit. free to go in and a great way to while away and good hour. Most of the exhibits are shown in Spanish but there are some English translations and a photo album showing how the airport has grown since then to now.
