A gem in Tenerife
Dec 2019 • Couples
Very interesting and defiantly worth visiting. My partner don't like museums but loved this one. It is bigger than I expected for a small island. The only missing thing is English translation as it is only in Spanish. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend it.

The Final Stop
Nov 2019 • Friends
I visited this excellent museum during my recent trip to Tenerife as it helped conclude a three year side project visiting all of Spain’s former North and West African possessions.
The museum is appropriately situated within the former Baracks overlooking the harbour.
Exhibits range from the 15/16th century right up to Spain’s NATO presence.
The top floor contained a great display of Napoleonic dioramas and an excellent display of the Army Of Africa .
Once done I had a very nice Tapas meal in the on site cafe bar which commands great views over the busy working harbour.

Great Historical Museaum for free!
Nov 2019
I was really taken by the Museo Historico Militar de Canarias.
I do not speak Spanish but the museum mostly had English and Spanish signage.
Great display of the Battle of Tenerife 1797 I found this very interesting as it showed the strategy of the battle and why Nelson's forces ultimately surrendered and the chivalry of the Spanish Leader. There was also models of the ships in the battle on display, captured flags and weapons. There is also an enigma machine from WWII and tons of other artillery pieces and weapons. If you want to see the Tiger Cannon that took off Nelson's arm you will not find it here, it is just down the road at the remains of the fortress near the pier. My partner also found this visit interesting and she is not into military stuff at all, neither am I really so it was an excellent surprise to enjoy this free attraction so much. By the way if you want to see the 1797 battle display you need to ask at the front desk and specify the language you prefer.

Fascinating Historic Collection
Oct 2019
FREE entry. Lots of exhibits. Various collections of weapons. maps and military vehicles. A great collection on the naval history of Tenerife including the amphibious assault by the British Royal Navy on the Spanish port city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Launched by Rear-Admiral Horatio Nelson on 22 July 1797. An extensive collection, but the experience would have been improved for us if more of the information was in English as well as Spanish.

worth a visit
Mar 2019 • Friends
As of march 2019 they seemed to have some rearrangements being done, but otherwise a solid display of the military history of the islands, including some of western Sahara. And it's free of charge, but with a donation box.

Little in English
Mar 2019 • Couples
This museum is quite a walk from the centre although there is a bus which goes there from the bus station. It is an old fort so is worth visiting just to look at the building and the coffee shop is delightful situated on a terrace overlooking the port.
The exhibitions are excellent but to get the most out of it, you would need to have good Spanish as there is little in English. I wish I had done a bit of homework about Spanish history before visiting rather than afterwards.

Worth a visit
Mar 2019 • Solo
It’s a bit out of the way, but was worth the effort to get there. No charge to go in, a donation box was available. On arrival was given a leaflet in English which has brief information about the museum. The is an excellent display of the invasion by the British with an English commentary. There are also original flags captured from the British. Lots of uniforms, weapons of all kinds and pictures. Don’t miss the building to the right of the main museum. The was a lovely photos display there of landscapes of Tenerife- this is a temporary exhibition due to finish 5/3/19.
Also a cafe which was on the right serving drinks, cakes and food.

A lovely museum, with truly historic artifacts
Mar 2019 • Solo
Set in what was the largest fort which then became a military base, this museum is close to town and less than 15 minutes from cruise terminal. Very informative. Original flags captured from the British in 1797, plenty of historic weapons, both small arms and heavier. A great diorama with commentary in English about the one battle Nelson lost (he also lost his arm in it), the 1797 assault he led on Santa Cruz. And a very pleasant cafeteria with views of the harbour. Allow a minimum of 1 hour, better still give it 2!
