The Santander artist Jose Cobo Calderon is the creator of these wonderful statutes. They are in memory of the poor children who used to dive for coins tossed in the Santander harbour by rich tourists. There are several (at least 3) explanations for the meaning...More

Came across them when taking a stroll alongside the sea. They look quite realistic and are to scale and you can imagine boys diving into the sea for the coins thrown in for them.

A joyous group celebrating Santander's history. A group of small divers waiting to dive for coins, an activity that took place some years ago when passenger ships called.

They attract a lot of attention, from the moment we saw them we knew that we wanted to know more about them.

It's a statue. We walked by it and said, that's interesting, and then we continued on our way. Not something to go out of your way for.

These statues are very easy to find near the port in Santander and are worth finding. They are very lifelike and you almost expect them to come alive.

Before we set off to Sardiniera we had a stroll down the quay in Central Santander. We found the statues that make up the Raqueros. Pleasant site on the quay and worth a stroll in the sun.

There is a plaque alongside these statues which unfortunately does not have any translation which is a shame as it would of made more sense when I visited .
