Cistercian Convent Santo Domingo is said to be the oldest in the city. It contains not only some of El Greco’s earliest paintings but also the wooden coffin and remains of El Greco which can be viewed through a glass window to the crypt below. There is also a nun on hand to sell marzipan! Well worth the small entry... More

Santo Domingo is a beautiful large convent with on a beautiful and peaceful square slightly off the main tourist areas of Toledo. The convent itself cannot be visited as there are still nuns living there but the church is beautiful and filled with light. There is a small entrance fee or you can buy the very nice marzipan biscuits and... More

If a fan of El Greco you must visit this religious building sited at the place where the first monastery was built after the city was controlled by Alfonso VI in 1085. It was later remodeled around end of 16th C. and El Greco who had arrived in the city was chosen to provide several paintings for the altar. The... More

It may be the oldest convent in Toledo and it may indeed house 1 El Greco; but the experience of visiting its hideous little museum with decaying bone relics of little known saints was costly from an emotional point of view. I couldn't get out fast enough.

The museo doesn't have the interactive bells and whistles of modern museums - that is, it's an 'old-fashioned' style museum with cabinets and artifacts. yet, there's good reason to make a stop here if you have time. We particularly studied the El Grecos at the altar. Other relics from the 12th-17th centuries, articles, including deeds, documents, Last Wills, and a... More

A must see if you like El Greco... or even if you only want to know more about El Greco. It's not the actual house, but it's still a great attraction. Well worth a visit.

Last week a group of us went to both Toledo and Madrid and both places have taken HUGE care to give the international and national visitors the most incredible experience of understanding the life of El Greco and mainly his life in Spain. The works shown and the presentation at Santo Domingo Museum is fabulous ! YOU have be an... More

My son and I both read up on El Greco's The Burial of Count of Orgaz before we visited Toledo, so we really enjoyed seeing the painting and it was well worth the price of admission. My husband and daughter weren't familiar with the painting and there was no information about the painting at the site, so they were pretty... More
