Antiguo Convento de San Marcos, one of the most iconic monuments of Spain and Europe.
May 2019 • Friends
Antiguo Convento de San Marcos is a jewel surrounded by a large pedestrian plaza. The origins of this magnificent monument lie in the 12th century and finished in the 16th century. The impressive and ornamental plateresque facade makes this monument one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture of Spain and Europe.

Impressive front, but renovation is ongoing
Oct 2018 • Couples
This is about a 15 minute walk from the old town, either a pleasant walk along the river, or a nice walk through late 1800 and early 1900 buildings. This convent has a very long and nice front, well worth seeing just this. The parador (hotel) is closed, so also the courtyards are (temporarily?) no longer accessible. Inside the convent there was also renovation ongoing, so the choir was closed off. Possible to see, for free, were the church, and 3 rooms. One has some old graves and stone works, and was the original location of the museo de León. It really isn't much. However, one room has a very nice ceiling, and well worth a visit.

A 15' walk just to see the (still impressive) front. We obviously didnot prepare enough. No more Parador either, where we wanted to do a nice lunch. Have to come back in a couple of years time ...

A Parador with tours
Oct 2017 • Couples
This is one of the grand hotels of Spain owned by Spain’s government. It was originally a pilgrim’s hospice. There are free tours in this old and large monastery. It has and impressively long and grand central staircase. When we were there, it was packed with lots of tour groups. It’s worthwhile going next door to the Iglesia San Isidoro.

Great hotel full of character
Jul 2017 • Solo
Stayed here for a couple of nights. Midway between travel from Madrid to Bilbao. Old converted nunnery with lots of history. This is one of the Paradors of Spain. Paradors are always worth considering when visiting Spain...I have stayed at several....this one is right up there with the very best. Rooms are a bit dated but very comfortable and spacious. Service is second to none and staff are so polite and helpful....this is so refreshing. Good is great. Can't fault anything. Highly Recommended

Very impressive building / hotel
May 2017 • Couples
This building is also a parador, or government run hotel. It is truly a very impressive structure and retains much of the historical appearance it had in centuries. The church and cloister are very nice. Parts of the building are for guests only, so visitors don't get to see the entire building. For non guests, 1 hour should be sufficient to see the monastery, church and its museum, and cloister.

Located close to the river and picturesque old medevial bridge, San Marco monastery is worth of even a short visit. See inside patio with cypruses and arches of second floor gallery, main alter, great ceiling arches. A real masterpiece of arcitecture in Leon!!!

This place almost dissapeared so the fact that it's still intact is amazing when you see get to see it and learning the rich history behind it.
