We were walking among the shops and happen to see the pinnacles of this building and decided to walk towards it. We were glad we did and were amazed at what befall our eyes. A beautiful cathedral! We didn't have much time to go inside to see the interior of this old church and only took some pictures of the... More

Definitely worth of visit. Try to get the audio guide for better experience. Also wait to enter the Tower because you can visit the upper balconies of the cathedral.

Luckily they built the new cathedral alongside this 12thC masterpiece. The Romanesque nave is augmented by a central two tier lantern bringing in much needed light. There are many ornate column capitals together with 13thC frescoes. The altar is worth a look being 15thC with many 'compartments' and vivid painting. A couple of chapels complete a worthwhile visit.

This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen. It is magnificent I only wish we had had more time and could have seen the inside.

Just when you think that you have seen all the cathedrals, up pops this one! How did those guys build such magnificent buildings back in the day? Check out the frieze on the left hand side of the main entrance, just love stone masons with a sense of humour.....

Salamanca’s ‘old’ Roman Catholic Cathedral was completed in the 1300s, in a Romanesque/Gothic style. It may be smaller and not as grand as the new, but it’s very important because a wall and the bell tower actually help support the new! The tableaux and fresco in the apse are stunning. The old Cathedral has its own special peaceful atmosphere. Look... More

This is the best example of Romanesque architecture. Very atmospheric. Wonderful recently rediscovered wall paintings, and a fine altar piece. This can also be viewed from the Tower Climb where we can look down into the inside of the old cathedral.

Confusingly attached to the New Cathedral, this is an excellent example of Romanesque architecture. Very atmospheric. Wonderful recently rediscovered wall paintings, and a fine altar piece. Can also be viewed from the Tower Climb, where you look down into the inside of the old cathedral, but also explore the roof and decoration of the outside too.

Visiting this cathedral is great if you have never seen a cathedral before... Cost is about 4 euros. You can stroll around and learn more about the history. But climbing the nearby Ironymus Tower is not included in this ticket. I bought a ticket to this tower instead and then found out that you can still enter the cathedral also.
