Beautiful plaza and monument!

It is a beautiful plaza and sculpture. It is very well lightened at night. The monument is located in Plaza Zorrilla in the Campo Grande park.
It is nice to walk around the area.

Jose Zorilla was a famous writer who was born in Valladolid and that is why they have his statue here. It is located near downtown and at the end of the Campo Grande park.

Central fountains in front of the Campo Grande Park.

Running alongside the city park is the Acera de Recoletos which depicts some interesting structural design of housing typical of the area. This leads up to the Plaza Colon which has an excellent depiction in large statue form of Christopher Columbus et al. Take a left at the Paseo Filipono and walk back down through the Park to the Plaza Zorilla which looks straight ahead to the outstanding Acadameia de Cabelleria building running alongside the main shopping area of Santiago. This leads into Plaza Mayor.

Picturesque area

The statue itself is not that interesting but the composition of the area, with the surrounding buildings, park and pond is actually very photogenic.

The Monument to Zorilla is located at Plaza de Zorilla. Jose Zorrilla was a Romantic poet and dramatist, born in Valladolid in 1817, and died in 1893. In 1889 he received the title of Poet Laureate. One of his famous works was Don Juan Tenorio. The statue was done in bronze by Aurelio Rodriguez Carretero and was inaugurated in 1900. The statue shows Zorrilla dressed in a costume of his time, reading a paper and holding a pen in his hand. Below his feet is a muse that represents poetry and shows her with a lyre. The pedestal has two parts made of stone and has a baseboard made of granite. The upper part is shaped like a truncated cone. There is a capital that is decorated with eight flowers made of bronze. The title of the statue says “To the poet Zorrilla”. There is information about his date of birth and death. The Plaza de Zorrilla has little fountains and is located in one of the most prominent places in the city, beside the Campo Grande.
