This fascinating area is steeped in history, with city hall located in the same spot where kings once reigned. You'll find narrow streets and squares here, with Gothic mansions, museums, historic churches, bars and restaurants. The Placa del Rei is reputedly the place where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella welcomed Columbus after his voyage to America.

This is a beautifully historic area of Barcelona. I loved getting lost in the narrow streets and looking up at all the balconies... Another world

While on a photography tour of Barcelona in August 2016, I spent several hours exploring this area of the city. Like the Gothic Quarter, it feels more local than touristy and not as crowded. There are many churches, small courtyards, and quiet streets and alleys...More

We visited the city in April and found this hotel to be well placed for just about everything, walking, metro station restaurants. All good. Its one drawback is that it can be a bit noisy if you are at the front of the hotel. This...More

We had a walking tour guide provided by our tour and she was brilliant. Toured the Barrio Gotica and old Jewish quarter. Amazing!

The gothic quarter is a combination of small narrow street together with a number of monuments and squares. Spend some time to just walk around and discover new details around each corner.

While there are lots of tourist-type shops and eating places, also so many stores/bar-restos of beautiful quality, tucked away on narrow side streets. Lots of fun!

The very best places to start your visit to Barcelona! Stroll around and "get lost" in the warren of tight streets and alleys of the old town. Great shops, boutiques, galleries, restos! Surprisingly safe both day and night.

Very interesting location just set behind Las Ramblas. It looked scruffy during the day but really came alive at night. Loved the little "Pop Up" Bars that opened after about 9ppm and served some of the best Tapas. Our hotel was fairly basic but very...More

Ciutat Vella is the old city, the centre of Barcelona, made up of four neighbourhoods with La Rambla running through the centre. Our hotel was in the Barri Gotic neighbourhood of the old city and it was a great vantage point from which to visit...More
