The basilica is a quiet and beautiful Gothic church, made special by the fact that it was built as a true people's church. The interior is worth a look and a little time to sit and appreciate all of the fine details of it's interior. Although not as grand as the cathedral, it is a lovely place.

Having read and enjoyed Falcone's book about the building of this "People's Cathedral" it was a slight disappointment to visit in real life. Not only because it appears somewhat more modest than the nearby Barcelona cathedral for the rich, but it seemed somewhat less maintained and cared for. The Gothic architecture remains impressive and the square in front of the... More

In the Gothic Quarter, built by neighborhood artisans, this is a place for quiet reflection. We visited in the early evening and it was not crowded.

A lovely church in a lovely area... it is nestled in the gothic quarter and should not be compared to the gaudi type buildings, is is beautiful in its own right.

If you love hold and glitz, go to the Gothic Cathedral. If you want a honest day laborers church from the 1300s, come here and appreciate what these laborers managed. The stained glass is magnificent. The arches are soaring and stunning.

Great place. Don't think you can enough of visiting churches. Didn't do the climb up the towers. I would recommend this church to visit. There are several shops and places to eat and buy something nice.

One of the many beautiful classical churches of Europe. The height internally is impressive and the side alters provide rich dedication to the Christian faith. The large heavy doors to the entry of the church provided the feeling of security inside the church for it's people through out history. The coldness of the stone and tile floors provided me with... Nice old gothic church in Gothic quarter just as amazing as the cathedral of Barcelona. The entrance is free, so do not miss to enter it.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
