In 1665, the Castro Fortress was constructed to protect the city from continuous attacks by the British Navy. During that time, the Castro, the San Sebastian Fortress and the city wall were a strong defensive system of the city. This defensive system was not very much effective because it couldn't stop hostile interventions. At present, the fortress has become a famous tourist attraction because of beautiful gardens, open spaces and superb views.

Great views over Vigo city and beaches around it, from this ancient castle where lived celtic community, before romans came. I really recommend to visit it.

Although it is quite step to climb in places, it is well worth for the excellent view of Vigo, especially viewing the port area. Fairly busy with people enjoying the views and the calm atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

This spot is pretty and is very simple. There isn't much in regards to see but the views from the fortress is impressive.
