We went on a Saturday afternoon. This place is way too crowded. You're pretty much eating while standing in a crowd. It's an okay experience If you're a tourist and happen to be in the area. I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't super crowded.

This is one of the many open space markets in Madrid. At least 15 restaurants, stalls, and bars in the space all selling tapas, wine, sweets, paella, sushi, and others. As with all tapas/pinxtos places, can be very crowded and you'll have to be pretty loud to get the attention of staff. Just stroll around and try everything. One near... More

Really great food, very clean for a "market" it's more of a big food hall than a market. Lots of fun for any foody.

What more can one say, fabulous tapas from here to the moon. Caters to all tastes and friendly for English speaking turistas! We enjoyed the sea urchin & fresh fruit, but above all Iberico Jamon!

A market inside a glass building with a variety of things to drink and eat from sweets, biscuits and fruits to fish, tapas and champagne. Nice for a little lunchtime snack. Very busy.

This market is super cool, and right next to plaza mayor which is also a great place to visit. There's a wide variety of typical Spanish foods from various vendors. Great place to get a little taste of everything. You can order wine or beer (or sangria or vermouth on tap!) and walk around eating at all the different places.... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
