Be inspired and astounded by the size of Plaza Mayor. Presently free cultural events of opera on Friday evenings, to celebrate 400 years since the first brick laid in the square.

This is an impressive plaza to visit. The arcades around the sides were a blessing in the blazing sun, and the boutiques and shops sell and interesting array of goods. Luckily for us, it was only a short walk from our apartment so we visited...More

We visited the plaza a couple of times during our visit. There are plenty of places to eat, but all the prices are very touristy. Lots of interesting shops but also lots of hawkers.

You cannot go to Madrid and skip Plaza Mayor. You enter, and inhale--it's just lovely. And don't be scared off by the shops along the perimeter--while this is a tourist destination, the shops and cafes are worth a visit. You can get a nice snack...More

This was a good place to hang out and have a drink. There are plenty of restaurants around the plaza to eat. The food is average. Worth at least one visit.

Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street

side streets. Some of these side streets are wide
pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so
it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as

A lovely square, can't comment on the prices. Walking distance to most places. Food will not be a problem, the metro is cheap and easy to use. Be aware of pick pocks the locals where there rucksacks to the front. Madrid is... More
