The Church of Our Lady of Concepcion is one of my favorite churches in Madrid and my wife and I always visit it when we go to Calle Goya, which is a street filled with good stores. The church is a quiet place where we go to rest and contemplate.

Located across the street from our hotel. Entered it by chance thinking it wasn't a Catholic church since I did not see any cross outside. Nice surprise since i think it most beautiful church visits i had today. Dome was blue as it is Mary's color. I hope my photos does it justice.

This was our first site to see in Madrid as it was right near where we were staying. It didn't disappoint with gorgeous architecture and nice grounds.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion is one of my favorite churches because it is quite beautiful. We always enter this church to admire it when we pass by Calle Goya. There is plenty of good art inside the church.

One of the best church in Madrid for sure, very close to the most important attractions of the city like Parco del Retiro and the Royal Palace. Absolutely a must to see place, the huge inside church it's something unthinkable, spacious and rich of arts masterpieces but esthetically not so old, especially the renouvated facade with the John Paul Pope's... The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion is now a basilica and this year marks the 100th anniversary of its construction. We went to the church and we took the special guided tour of the church. They took us up to the bell tower and we could see the splendid view of the city from that spot. We were... More

The Iglesia is an amazing building on the outside - a brilliant white in colour and quite unlike any church I have seen before. It is nestled among uninteresting buildings, aside from the large mirrored building beside it that affords some interesting reflected views of the church, close to the Valazquez and Serrano Metro stops. In the small space at... More

Beatiful unique church that is not old but generally only one I saw white and gothic. Also it glances like in the mirror close is a new glass building

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion is a modernist masterpiece because it has beautiful architecture outside and inside. The church is full of light and the many chapels have very good art and images.

The first Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion was constructed at the corner of Claudio Coello and Calle Hermosilla, in 1875. It was the first church constructed in the Salamanca Barrio. Soon the church became small for the number of people who went to it. It was then decided to build a new church on Calle Goya, where the... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
