I was so excited to see the “Puerta de Alcalá” because of the song (Spanish speakers will understand) however it was closed during our visit. They do placed a “photo “ in front of the construction so it was kinda nice.

Wasted time walking there, without being warned that it was closed for repairs. Second major landmark during the same trip that was unavailable for visitors.

One more place on our list we could not see. Walked to it this morning and found this monument fenced off and under construction, so there is nothing to see here unfortunately.

While walking through Retiro Park, the Puerta de Alcala is worth seeing. It is majestic and a beautiful structure, and only the Royal Family can physically go through it. It is a great photo spot and worth seeing as this gate is rich in history and is one of the main gates to the city of Madrid.

Nice gate to see once you walk by. Surroundings have many restaurants and pubs that might be interesting. Nothing compared to Paris or Berlin and their "gates"..

Puerta de Alcala is one of the five royal gates that gave access to Madrid. It is located in the central part of the city. This neoclassical granite triumphal arch was built in 1778. It is one of the most emblematic places in the city and a must see. Beautiful tourist icon in Madrid.
