Like it's French counterpart but totally different. First of all is practically inaccessible (only seen up close by car) because of its location on an incredibly busy highway in Moncloa. Close to the Presidential Palace. Controversial because it was built in the 1950's to celebrate...More

This victory arch is at Moncloa just opposite the metro. It is huge with a lovely bronze statue on top. It isn't easily accessible and best seen from the road running up to it from the North or from the Moncloa tower.

This monument is also known as the Moncloa because of its location in the neighbourhood of this name, almost in front of the Madrid University´s prefecture. It´s a arch similar to the Parisian Triumph Arch and equally was made to celebrate a victory. However, it´s...More

A very nice triumphal arch not far from Plaza D'Espana which makes for a good photo stop. There's not much else to do bar look at it to be fair. It is as grand and ornate as you'd expect as it was built by Franco...More

Built by dictator Franco in 1956. This is an austere monument which has a grand name but the actual arch is so so and rather miserable. After all it commemorates the fascists being victorious in the Spanish Civil War.

This is a very large arch standing on a busy road with a nice looking monument at it's peak. However, it also seems to have been left to deteriorate without anyone noticing the state it is in. The arch is now beginning to look very...More

We spent some time in this part of the city and this was a sight to visit. It was very impressive indeed.

When statues of proslavery leaders are being pulled down, this edifice celebrating the victory of Fascism over democracy in Spain goes unremarked. Sadly there is no explanation or context for this memorial which is a shame. Volunteers from all over the world came to fight...More

Its hard to get close to this monument because its in the middle of a multi-laned highway. A grand arch with horses on the top, I wasn't aware it was commissioned by Franco to commemorate the Spanish Civil war. You will see it if you...More

Only Franco would impose a painful reminder on Madrilenos of the bitter price they paid in the Spanish Civil War. Name a place anywhere in the American South, where Lincoln or Grant imposed a humiliating arch on former confederates. This arch is not particularly approachable,...More
