This is one of the many churches located in Matera. This one is worth your visit because it is very unique. It is fairly easy to find and has some interesting fresco's

Very interesting place. Highly recommend not to miss it in Matera. The rock hewn church is located to the top of the Mount and is totally curved into the rock. The place also have the wonderful view.

This church hewn from the rock has some exquisite frescoes, for example those depicting the archangel Michael and St Nicholas from the 13th century and one of the Annunciation from the 12th century.

The is is an interesting church to photograph and to walk around. Round the back can be a little awkward,bit you are rewarded with beautiful views of the valley

Well worth a visit. Tho relatively small churches, one carved inside the soft rock, with a great view of Matera, the river canyon and the valley.
