Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

From the center of Naples, it is pretty far on foot, but you can take a bus (direction Capodimonte), which stops in front of the Catacombe (check in advance their site for the openinghours) The catacombe itself is worth seeing. You will have a very good idea about Naples underground.

This was a very enjoyable tour. The history of these tombs is extremely interesting. A lovely English speaking guide, Julia, took our group of about 10 people through the catacombs sharing the history and interesting stories. She was able to answer all questions. At the end of the tour, our guide told us that she was one of a handful... More

The Cataciombe di San Gennaro is a not to be missed attraction in Naples. We did it as part of the Holy Mile walking tour that also took in the Fontelle cemetry and the Catacombes of San Gaudiso. A fascinating tour and a must do. I highly recommend it.

This is a must see in Naples. The guide spoke very good English and was clearly very passionate about his local heritage. The tour was fascinating, I would highly recommend a visit.

There are so many reasons to visit the San Gennaro Catacombs. The most significant one is that this incredible site is (perfectly) managed by a coperative of young people all coming from the "difficult" Sanità district. It's a best practice of job creation, and these people need your support and - no doubt - deserve it. A suggestion: when you... More

I visited the catacombs of san gennaro and it was an interesting cultural experience. The entrance ticket with an English speaking guide was only 8 euros per person, but you won't see skeletons, if this is the main reason for which you want visit this spot.

Underneath this majestic church there is a labyrinth of conduits, slippery pathways, and gloomy tunnels. These catacombs make for an interesting excursion into the dark history of Naples. I took a bilingual tour, which was informative, and the guide gabbled through his Italian spiel with great gusto and when he spoke in English he was eloquent, inspiring, and dramatic. He... More

These catacombs date back to Roman and early Christian times and are a fascinating place to visit. On entering there is an immediate sense of calm and serenity in the vast open areas of the tunnels. Of note are the early Christian frescos, altars and baptismal font. The tour was conducted by a young Italian guide who spoke excellent English.... More

This was our first Naples underground experience, so I can't compare it with the others. We loved it, though. It was amazing to see the different forms of graves and the remains of the three places of worship from around 200 to 600 A.D., and the tour guide did a wonderful job. From the Capodimonte museum, it's a five-minute taxi... More
