Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Unusual place. A numerous number of graves in the stone walls and floor of catacombs with old frescoes, some of them well preserved. Old Christian churches gives you the feeling of the spirit of the early Christian Era. The perfect guides that really love their job.

Not as well know as other Catacombs these San Gennaro ones are for sure very Beautiful and full of mistery, not to mention that these were the catacombs where the most important Saint of the City of Naples was Buried.

We loved this tour, I learned so much about catacombs other than "bones in a wall". This has an area where bishops were buried near the Saint (Gennaro), worship and baptism areas, along with many burial crypts for Christians. There is a coop of young people running it, from guides to cleaners to electricians, etc.

Welcomed by some local goodies .. the pretty guide takes me and my wife underground within the very well preserved catacombe (underground cemetery - temple) where we see how the history has unbundled itself over the centuries ... Starting from 300 AD... Till current days .. in the between you live feelings of those that have used those galleries to... More

Very interesting crypts only recently dug out (last decade). Don't expect any bones; that's the cemetery 15 minutes away. Still very interesting guided, historical tour for a few Euros, and worth the visit, if you're here for a few days. If time is of the essence, probably not worth it, unless you really dig the dark stuff.

I had never been to a catacombs before but had seen pictures. This was truly amazing. Make sure you ask your guide about the organization that is currently managing this wonderful place. It's a great success story about what a small group of teenagers can do. This is a must see in Naples

If you want spent a couple of hours discovering not very well known place in Napoli. go to visit Catacombe di San Gennaro, a paleochristian church on the slope of Capodimonte hill. No problem to park the car, but you can reach the place by bus too.
