Oh dear, we were here in July and it was so hot (90 degrees?), hardly any shade, our too young tour guide wanted to recite the encyclopedia to us while standing in the sun for over 2 hours...all the rubble - oops - historic stones...More

This house was closed during my visit but you always can reach the decoration in the entrance, a famous black dog made by little pieces of stone in the floor; was funny the way that each place got their name but you can read more...More

The house of the tragic poet is the home of the "Cave Canem" mosaic (which I remember hearing about in Latin lessons 50 years ago!) The house was closed and undergoing restoration works when we visited but we were still able to see this famous...More

At the entry of this house you can see the famous mosaic 'Cave Canem', beware of the dog. The house is not accessible and the mosaic is behind glass.

A little insight into the life of someone in Pompeii revealed in the mosaics that remain inside the walls. Obviously not the house of a poorer person.

Another nice house in pompeii. The mosaics and frescos are good and of course give the house it's name.

This is house is famous for the Beware of Dog mosaic at the entrance (which is neat, indeed) but that is only one of the great mosaics in the house. The 'Master of Theatre' mosaic is amazing alone and is where the house gets the...More
