you can buy a ticket which lets you get into a handful of museums for free but to buy a ticket on its own is quite expense for what there is to see. from the outside it looks really impressive but once you get inside...More

The Mausoleom of Cecilia Metella is from the 1st century BC. This was a monumental round tomb on the Appian Way for a Roman noblewoman who was related to Crassus. The structure on the outside is interesting - there is not much inside but it...More

If you have a Caracalla Ticket then it's worth it to take the 10 minutes to walk around the interior. The oldest part, the tomb is really just a big tower with a hole in the middle. The other parts were added later and they...More

When walking along the Appian Way, the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella is easily admired from the outside. I only recommend stopping in if its free on your Roma pass or with your admission from another attraction, otherwise it's not worth the 6 euros per person....More

This is easily the most underwhelming place on my Rome Archeology card list but it was free with my card and a good place to start a walk on the Appia Antica. Assuming you can figure out how to get there on the bus!

Much of the travertine cladding is still in place after 2500 years. The main inscription is perfectly legible. Most of the structure is intact.

We noticed with our admission ticket to the Baths of Caracalla that it also included 7 days' validity for this site too. We happened to stumble on it as we were walking down the Appian Way - a nice little extra for no added cost,...More

Our Roma Pass got us in free, or we would have felt it was not worth the cost. Only took about 15 minutes to walk around and see what was there. It is a good place to begin to walk back toward Rome along the...More

Fascinating arcaeological site which combines antiquity with the MIddle Ages. The round tomb of Caecilia Metella, who died in the first century B.C., is interesting only from the outside but the adjacent medieval residence is well worth a visit, as it houses a collection of...More

We didn't have a Rome Pass so paid the €6 entrance fee, which is far too expensive as there is really very little to see considering the cost. If it had been free I would say that it is well woth visiting. It is also...More
