Went to the Aula Magna at La Sapienza last night for a terrific concert for violin and cello. Concert hall (obviously fascist-era, dominated by 1935 Mario Sironi mural) had pretty good acoustics, at least for where we were sitting (3rd row on side). Tickets were very reasonably priced, concert was top notch, and we will go to this venue again.

Ample access to public transit and a strong centralized technical community made the area a great choice for a Maker Fair. The grounds fit all the booths and there were hotel options close to the venue.

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo may look all street with its pulse in urban art and street food, but don’t be fooled. This gritty student neighbourhood immediately east of Termini train station is on the avant-garde rise. Art galleries, curated mural projects by artists like Rome’s favorite Alice, charming cafes, and boutique restaurants are slowly infiltrating the streets of San Lorenzo with counter-culture chic. Don’t worry, San Lorenzo still retains its local vibe with weekend festivals and demonstrations, and is always a hub for Rome’s university student scene.
