The Mercato Trionfale is in the neighborhood where I grew up and I have been going there for many years to do my shopping. It is certainly the best-stocked in Rome with a wide choice of meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Inside there is also a corner dedicated to Asian cuisine (Box93) with Sushi, Poke, ravioli and much more. I have tried it several times and the quality of the raw materials used is highly respectable, I highly recommend it.

It is said that the Mervato Trionfale was the first local market in the city.
Large, clean and spacious, it includes almost three hundred sales stalls.
Here you can find not only fruit and vegetables but also excellent quality cheeses, wines, meat and fish.
It is definitely worth a visit just to breathe in an electrifying and evocative environment!

My wife went to the museum and I went to the Mercato Trionfale. The best ! is an understatement. Every stall was beautful, the sights, the sounds, the smells, were all amazing. Lunch at Pescheria Duca was a 10+. Spaghetti with clam sauce, the best I've ever had.

We stopped with a friend and their families to eat a porchetta sandwich at a stand inside the market. There was a sign specifying that the sandwich cost 7 euros, while the sandwich with drink of your choice cost 8 euros. Before ordering I asked for courtesy, since the boys only took water, if it was possible to have 3 glasses of wine instead of the drink. They said there was no problem. The sandwich had the pork inside very cold. I pointed it out, but nobody bothered to fix it. The wine then, they chose it served in a plastic cup: a barely drinkable thing. I asked if it was possible to replace the drink of their choice with a small beer always of their choice. They told me there was no problem. At the time of the bill we are asked for an extra 21,50 euros. When I asked for an explanation, an annoyed gentleman stoningly told us that the drinks taken were all out of the offer. And when I reminded him that I had asked earlier if the change was possible, I was told that that was just the check, without even wanting to explain how much the anonymous glass of wine or bottle of water cost. Being with the families, there was no need to argue. We just paid for it. However, this behaviour should have been highlighted.

There is a coffee shop inside the market. I use to go there to get americano to go. Today instead of paying 1,5 regular price I was charged 2,5 euros. It’s absurd. Total reap off. So if you are a tourist don’t go there. They see you are not Italian and they charge you at least double (which is illegal). So avoid this place and get your coffee from a regular coffee shop. It would be cheaper and of a better quality.

We were close to the Cipro Metro Station and so we wanted to have a look inside the Mercato Trionfale, given the numerous positive reviews.
To tell the truth, the market didn't seem particularly attractive to us. There are many markets like this in Rome and some may be even better.
Basically it is about a series of many food, fish, vegetables and breads stalls, inside a building.
Well, in Barcelona or Palermo food, meat and fish markets are true attractions indeed.
The prices are identical to those of supermarkets and perhaps even a little higher.
Probably these indoor markets with a wide variety of food do not exist in some foreign countries and this is the reason why they look attractive to tourists who, on their way the nearby Vatican, enter the market and remain charmed.
We were not particularly impressed, also because everything was absolutely usual and we did not feel any vibration of any type
If you are close by, however, go inside for a short visit.

Stopped off here on the way to the Vatican after getting off the Metro at Ottaviano.
After going to Mercato di Campagna Amica near Circus Maximus the day before (where the stall owners basically ignored us and served locals first) this place restored our faith in the Roman people.
If you buy a bread roll at one of the bakeries you can take it to one of the meat counters and they will slice it open for you and stuff it with the meat and cheese of your choice - delicious!
There is also a place serving really good cheap coffee in the far right-hand corner.

Trionfale is a very large market. It is not really an open air market since it is covered. There are dozens of stalls.
It is where you will see real Romans shop for food; it is not at all touristy.
We walked there from the Vatican Museum, an easy 7 minute walk.
I wanted to visit the Trionfale market because I had read about stands that sell good mortadella. We wandered up and down the aisles until we found the largest round of mortadella - stall #245. There were 3 butchers slicing different meats - all by hand, all very thinly sliced.
I waited my turn and then gave my order in Italian (I used a translator app on my phone). When they didn't understand me, I showed them the written translation. They were happy to cut me one very thin slice!
You could definitely put together a good picnic here.
Of the 3 markets we visited this is what we found. Trionfale had the best selection of food, was the least touristy, and the worst for taking photos because the lighting is bad. Campo de'Fiori is good for photos but seems touristy with lots of packaged gift food items. And, Piazza San Cosimato in Trastevere is small, not touristy, and good for photos.

This market is amazing, especially if you are staying somewhere you are able to cook your own meals. Rows and rows of fresh meat, cheese, veggies, fish and pastries!! It is just about three blocks from the Metro A Cipro stop. Cross the street immediately and go left to Via Andrea Doria. About three or four blocks more look to your right. I wish this place was by me in Chicago!!

As many of you would have - we read about this market before going to Rome on several websites saying how authentic is was, well I did think if its advertised online there will be many tourists there and not so authentic as it once was.
HOWEVER we were pleasantly surprised, its not glamorous or exactly high-end but it is where the locals shop. It would be helpful to know a little Italian out of respect as it is not a tourist attraction. We were in the presence of some really arrogant Americans who refused to do this and we're acting extremely rude to the stall owner as he simply didnt understand what they were asking which seamed to annoy another local as he asked them to leave.
Food is to a great quality and is reasonably cheap - my partner was so glad to have 1.5kg of sun ripened tomatoes for 2Euro 50cents. We went as he is a chef in London working in an Italian restaurant, lets just say I think this was his favourite thing we did in Rome.
We spent about 25Euro but filled two rucksacks with Goodies such as wine (about 3-4Euro a bottle!) Fresh veg - cheese- bread and meat.
LITTLE TIP: if going to the Vatican afterwards make sure you take a rucksack with you so you can carry all the items you just purchased in there so its easier to carry than plastic bags and also it leaves your hands free.
