This place has a wonderful feel to it. You feel like you’re somewhere very special. It is not to be missed. Not too crowed either when the Pope isn’t out. Plenty of room to move and get a good look around then.

The design of the Piazza and Colonnade is a great space and worth a visit, but you have to ignore the huge crowds, the many fences and barriers, and people trying to sell you guided tours. We skipped St Peter’s, the Vatican Museum, and the...More

We went on a Sunday thinking we could see the museum but unfortunately it was closed so instead we just went for mass with the pope! It was wonderful being part of that group of people there to pray. The mass was in Italian and...More

We waited in long queue to enter the Basilica, around 2 hours, however we killed time looking around the square and admiring the beautiful architecture and grandeur of the place. Clicking pictures with different angles. It seems amazing to see so many pillars beautifully carved...More

Especially if you don’t want the full Vatican/Sistine tour, with all the cost, time, crowd etc, You should at least visit the “country”. An easy walk down via della Conciliazione, through an simple opening in the low fence, and you’ve left Rome for the Vatican...More

Amazing place to visit. One of the highlights of my trip! Standing in the middle and looking at the work that has gone into is just breathtaking!

The piazza is an exceptional place. Like the basilica, despite its massive scale it is beautifully proportioned. The obelisk is spectacular and the twin fountains are lovely. One was designed by Maderno and the other was built later to match. The circular piazza is framed...More

While I enjoyed touring the inside of the basilica, I also loved walking in the evening around the square. Couples posing for pictures, children playing, and fountains splashing made for a charming experience. Great photos ops too!

My advice is expect Large crowds, It will be very Crowded , probably very hot, get there as early as possible in other words probably not a good day to visit from a tourist point of view.
