Sadly after an attack some years ago, the Pieta is now about 15 ft behind a large panel of bullet proof glass. Nevertheless you can still revel in its magnificence. I would have paid a lot of money to be allowed to go behind the glass with a chair and sits for a couple of hours admiring it.

La Pieta is without a doubt one of the most emotional pieces of statuary you are likely to experience. it is so beautiful and to think michelangelo was just 24 years of age when he created this masterpiece is mind-blowing

The display is behind glass and the light gives it a very soft look. The details are incredible, hands and feet are as detailed as your own. I am sure that this work could handle some better lighting to better see and enjoy this work of wonder.

I have to say that I am really annoyed at the man that tried to destroy this beautiful work of art around forty? years ago because now it is behind glass and you do not get the same impression of it when you look at it. As our guide told us, it is the only piece that Michelangelo ever signed... More

The crowds in all of Vatican City sometimes make it difficult to see. At just over five feet, I could barely see this amazing statue, even holding up my camera and looking at the viewfinder. I suppose if you weren't with a tour and had the time, you could get as close to the glass as you want, but I... More

One of the great works of the ingenious Michelangelo. Unfortunately, it is protected behind glass and is viewed from a distancе.

what can you say about this fantastic piece except bravo. Fortunately most people take a look and a picture and leave so you can really spend a little more time to really appreciate it

This is INSIDE St Peter's Basilica, so you need to queue to get into the church first. Once inside, this is on the right hand side - and loads of people pushing to get to the front for pictures - so be prepared/patient. Unfortunately behind glass, but it doesn't really affect the viewing/photo-taking.

You can only see this at a distance due to the glass so it's a bit hard to appreciate. Still worth seeing of course if you're already in the Basilica.
