The most beautiful work inside St. Peter's Cathedral is Michelangelo's famous La Pietà, considered by many to be the most moving piece of sculpture ever created.

The Pieta is a beautiful sculpture by Michelangelo that is housed in St Peters Basilica. It depicts Mary holding Jesus after the cruxifixction and is the only statue that Michelangelo ever signed (apparently they were forbidden to sign statues!)

The Pieta is impressive for the skill and artistic value, but the Basilica in which it's situated felt dead to me. We didn't get much further than this when we decided to leave. We visited in May 2014.

This sculpture is in the Basilica, right side by the entrance. The sculpture behind a bulletproof glass as some one tried to hurt it many years ago. Huge crowd can gather front of it - please be patient. Recommended.

A beautiful sculpture by Michelangelo located in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. One of the most famous sculptures in the world, and you can get into the building for free. Arrive early to avoid the line.
