Like most places in Urbino this needs a climb but it is more than worth it to get a close view of these wonderfully executed and still remarkably fresh frescoes.

This small chapel has an amazing set of frescoes by Salimbeni that are in some ways equal in interest to the Giotto frescos in the Scrovegni chapel in Padova. As others have noted, the more closely you look, the more you discover in the rich...More

Of course everyone goes to the palazzo ducal in Urbino, and it's as wonderful as expected, but the oratorio is not to be missed. The frescoes are just wonderful and should really be seen before the palazzo, since it is earlier than most of their...More

The Oratorio is one small room but has the most amazing, vital frescoes. The guide at the door was very helpful, provided a factsheet in English and was willing to answer my questions regarding the renovation of the frescoes in English. To be recommended.

Truly outstanding frescoes, and so many of them! The colours are sharp, and the themes portray the dress and customs of that period.

We were in Urbino for the day, and had completed our tour of the Ducal Palace. We went to the Oratorio on the way out of town, and delighted in the narrow stone staircase of a street required to get there. The Oratorio is old,...More

The frescoes by the Salimbeni brothers of the Crucifixion and the life of John the Baptist have great charm and character. Notwithstanding the solemnity of the religious episodes and themes portrayed, they convey a wonderful sense of early fifteenth century life through their detailed observations...More
