The piazza itself is interesting, even if not exactly awe inspiring. However, it's a great place to sit under the porticos with a cold drink and watch the world go by. Cafes and restaurants are nice, but expect to pay a little more for food...More

Piazza Maggiore is in central Bologna surrounded by beautiful architecture and a lovely ambience. There are cafes overlooking the square and there was an open air cinema set up during June/July. A lovely place to walk around.

The whole square was covered up in the middle of tourist season. Horrible planning in my opinion. The square itself is probably great, too bad we couldn't really see much.
