We have not been here in 34 years , but we know the food in bologna is the best
We were dying to the have the green lasagna so we ended up at Finestrella di vía Piella , the manager offer to serve us 3 different pastas from Bologna , green lasagna -tagliatelle pasta and Tortellini stuffed with ricotta to Die for , thank you thank you we were in 7 heavens
With their bubble wine from their region similar to Prosecco we ended up buying 3 bottles to take away, never leave without dessert Amazing

No water!
Oct 2020 • Solo
I wasn’t expecting much, but since I was passing thought I’d take a quick look and get a photo of the ‘canal’. Except there IS no canal- see photo, nothing there. Disappointing.

OK for a quick picture

Worth a stop if you're in the area. There's a small "window" in the wall through which you can get nice photos of the water running in a canal through typical Italian looking buildings. Hopefully there's water in it when you visit!

Too bad
Jan 2020
It's too bad that the view through this portal has been ruined by a political sign, and a protective covering over one the of the buildings.

An unexpected experience in Bologna city center. Worth the visit since it is located very close to Piazza Maggiore.

A glimpse of Great Yarmouth! 😩
Oct 2019 • Friends
After seeing many guides etc recommending that you take the time to find and visit this window, we were somewhat disappointed. There was no water in the 'canal' , leaving it as a dirty, smelly and somewhat disgusting view akin to what you may see in some areas of great Yarmouth lol.
Perhaps it is worth a view when the water is there, but only a quick glance whilst passing by if that!

Canal in Bologna
Sep 2019
Canals are hard to find in Bologna. Luckily I did some online research and managed to find out where this one was.
We walked into the north of the city to find it.
There were a lot of people around so clearly it's a popular spot.
The water flowed fast and it was great to see.
It's such a shame that the canals of Bologna have disappeared. A lot were filled in and the rest are under the buildings.

Interesting Tourist Piece, better view across the street
Sep 2019
This little window into whet were once open canals of Bologna is an interesting view on what was considered a prized possession of the city and key to the silk production. From what our guide told us, there are still some basements along the canals that have the waterwheels and workrooms, but they are not open to the public.

Canals do run through Bologna and you can occasionally hear water while on the streets of a canal that may be underfoot. The finestra is a neat little contrivance that seems solely for tourists as if you turn around from looking through the window, you have an unobstructed view of the canal.

There is a nice little map of the canal system next to the window, and on the day we were there, in true Italian fashion, one of the residents had hung a hand-made sign to call for a political cause.

Worth a trip to find it as it is near the quadrilatero and via dell'Indepenza
