Italian Car Engineering History at Top Level
Jan 2019
Worth visiting, as I. did a couple of years ago. Eye candy for the serious engineer. DOHC dating to well before World War Two, still actual piece of jewelry in today's world. Do not expect the glamor of the Galleria Ferrari (now Museo Ferrari) ... it is a small operation. Do not complain about being asked for a contribution at the end of the tour ... after all entrance is free, you cheeps complaining here. And while at it, pay another FREE visit to Campana on the Via Emilia in Modena , just opposite the Stanguellini Museum !

A little bit of motor history
Oct 2018 • Friends
The museum has just re-opened after relocating in the same complex, it is basically a collection of the Stanguellini Jr racing cars, some record breakers and the personal collection of the family, has about 40 cars of old Fiat's, Maserati's, Jaguars, Alfa Rome's etc. You need to call to go in, they dont charge entry and the chap will guide you (Need to speak Italian)...they just ask to buy something from the selection of merchandise 'if you want'... well worth a visit.

A Disappointment
Jun 2014 • Couples
We arrived about 10am to find it closed. When I say find that is a mild understatement as there was what appeared to be an empty car showroom with no signs to show where the museum was.
Thanks to the lovely receptionist at the nearby BMW dealer, who contacted them, we found that they opened from 2pm to 6pm.

We arrived back about 3.30pm, after doing the other tourist venues in Modena, and found the building closed. After speaking with some people nearby the owner of the museum arrived and, as far as we could tell (he spoke no english and we spoke minimal italian) the museum would open at 4pm. We enquired about entry fees "quanta costa" and were told no cost. He let us sit in the empty showroom. By 4.20pm we were some what brassed off when he came out with two guests and went outside and continued speaking while we continued to wait.

We were eventually ushered in and shown around (you were not free to wander and view it yourself) and there is some nice exhibits and even with limited italian we were able to understand what we were being shown. Part way through we were joined by a lovely lady who spoke english and translated for us.

At the end of the tour we were shown multiple items of merchandise for sale and the HARD sell came on. We were told that we were obligated to buy something to show gratitude for the time taken to show us around. I suspect that had we spoken italian that we would not have been put under the same pressure. This and the hour long wait soured the experience.

This could be a lovely experience with better organisation (organised opening hours), better signage and an entry fee rather than a pressure to buy merchandise. Sadly, in its current format I cannot recommend it.

I tried to contact this museum to arrange a tour based on the other Trip Advisor reviews for our recent trip to Italy. Unfortunately, no one ever responded to multiple e-mail and website inquiries, and voice messages from a local number in Italy. I'm not sure what we did wrong, as it sounds like many folks have had a great experience.

car enthusiasts need to go see this. a quite small collection but in a place which totally brings you in the car atmosphere. i was guided by a staff that has been working with the Stanguellini family for over 50 years. He was eager to explain everything to me! you have to speak italian and to book for a visit!

We had to work at it - but it paid off!

I lead a small group to the Motor Valley to attend Mile Miglia, see the Holy Grail of Italian Automotive Ates, and finish with Concorso d'Eleganza. One of our group had campaigned a Stangeullini Formula Jr and requested we include this on our tour, which I was happy to add. We knew from reviewing the web site they were not open on weekends, and we received no reply to several emails (seems to be an Italian thing). So we decided to just drop in on a weekday.

Initially it looked totally abandoned in an old Fiat dealership (turns out the dealer owns the collection and 'operates' the museum). A couple of us found some people near an old service bay, and we proceeded to try and engage them regarding access or hours of the museum. We got directed to a gentleman who did not speak English and was addressing us in a mix of Italian and German - which didn't help us much. Basically he was trying to shoo us away as he didn't think we had an appointment. We persisted and made him understand our travel mate being an owner. He relented and in we went!

We were all so glad he did relent as the collection is very well displayed, replete with automobilia from the time period and a ton of history (in Italian) about Stanguellini the man, the company and their relation to Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, and others. The collection owner also has a very nice stable of other cars - Mille Miglia contenders, Carrera Panamerica contenders, and some just plain cool cars! We asked for 30 minutes and they spent about 2 hours with us and showed us their full collection.

Definitely worth the effort to see - if you roll up and it looks closed, walk back to the service area and be a little persistent (politely).

A historic find!
Heaven for auto aficionados! Genuine Stanguellini cars and machine shop, books available, I totally agree with the previous review. If you love cars, go here before Ferrari. Great photos, people and cars! Don't forget Hombre cheese for Maseratis and parm, Leonardo for balsamico! What a great country!

Car Lover's Delight!
Oct 2013 • Solo
I visited Modena in October and thoroughly enjoyed my visit to both of the Ferrari car museums. BUT I enjoyed my visit to the Stanguellini Car Museum in Modena even more. This is a private car and auto related memorabilia collection that is owned by Francesco Stanguellini. His family was in the sports and racing car business for most of the 20th century. This museum has a number of vintage Stanguellini cars along with Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and several other makers. I had an absolutely delightful tour through the museum with the Stanguellini curator--Arturo Vicario. He even took me to the old machine shop down stairs. Arturo was a treasure trove of automotive history. Fortunately I spoke enough Italian to understand most of his spiel, but if you don't speak Italian I suggest that you have someone there to interpret for you. The museum is open M-F from 9-12 and 3-6, but I HIGHLY suggest that you make a reservation in advance.
