When you get on this tram, it is like jumping back into the past. Another rhythm, another pace. It slowly brings you up the hill towards Opicina and the view that you get from above is woth the time invested. A local legend says that if a student gets on this tram, he will never graduate. But many students proved... More

Only had a short stay in Trieste in late Oct and was very much hoping to ride the famous tramway. Unfortunately that wasn't to be possible as it was definitely closed. The route itself looks interesting so it was a pity to miss it.

The tram is a really nice way to climb up to the Carso and see Trieste from above. There's also a really nice walk that goes from the obelisk to Prosecco. Unfortunately they had an incident earlier in the year so it's closed at the moment but once it opens it's definitely worth a visit.

We were going to take the tram to Opicina but it was not running. There was however a replacement bus which was great and ran as often as the tram. It was a number 2 bus and cost 1.75, just a standard ticket you can buy at the tobacconist The views were magnificent. The journey was good and from there... More

Following an accident in August this tram is not running, but there is a replacement bus. The journey is well worth making. We had a pleasant lunch in Opicina and then walked along the well marked path to Prosseco. Beautiful views across Trieste and the sea. It is an easy walk across mainly flat ground.

If you dont want to bother find a parking in Trieste city centre and enjoy a ride - its perfect for you. Make sure to purchase tickets in a bar right next to the tram station.

I have ridden this tram many times; unfortunately, it was not running in Sept due to a collision which happened a couple of months ago. If it's running it's definitely worth the trip up to Opicina. You will have amazing views!

This tram route runs from Piazza Oberdan to Opicina. As the tram climbs towards Opicina, you get amazing views of the city of Trieste. On part of the route, the old tram is powered by over head electric cables and on the steeper part of the climb, it's pulled up the hill by steel cables. From Opicina it's possible to... More

The best way to travel to LjubLjana. Forget the bus, take this tram to Villa Opicina, then walk for 5 minutes to the train station. The station looks deserted, but is in fact serviced regularly by Slovenian trains that cross the border to get to this station. Pay on the train, and sit back for a scenic ride to Ljubljana.
