About
The cave of Torri di Slivia is considered one of the most beatiful cave of Triest Carso. Deep more than 100 meters, it develops in various rooms decorated with families of stalactites, tubular, curtains and stone chandeliers. An incredible variety, which makes her famous in the speleological world and also an example of active protection of naturalistic site.

Family owned sight - fantastic

Our family (parents + girl 9 + boy 4) picked this cave because we wanted to go off the beaten track. We love trains and tractors and we were transferred to the cave with a real tractor that was cosy and fun to ride! The interior of the cave is exactly what you can expect, we got detailed explanation, plenty of photo opportunities, map and dimensions of the place. The hostess was very friendly and we felt like peeping into the life of this rural family that keeps the secret (the cave) for the world and for times to come. Buying a ticket was a challenge since we found no signs "Buy ticket for the cave here" - but just queue up at the bar counter and apart from ordering some local ham and red wine, ask for tickets for the cave as well. A real gem of an experience!

A excellent cave system

Just a short 20 minute drive from Trieste, these caves are owned by a local farmer, so you go to their house to begin the tour. There is a café there and it is a nice setting to spend an hour or so for a rest stop. You board a tractor to take you down to the cave where you descend 55 metres into the caverns. Steps can be slippery so if you are a bit unstable on your feet, great care must be taken. The guide was fluent in many languages and he was informative during the 45 minutes underground.
An inexpensive activity for people of all ages including children I am sure you will enjoy.

Trieste was a new place, only "en passant" but we shall certainly be there again - this time with more than one day!

Spectacular cave

Because of my lack of proper research, I arrived at the cave 15 minutes after the tour started which was a bummer but totally worth it, because I was the only one there for the next tour and got a private one! The cave is fascinating and the tour was extremely informative. I highly recommend it! Just make sure you check the schedule before hand because there is not much to do around there if you miss the start of a tour and have to wait around.

I love this place. It was like in a movie, just amazing. Me and my boyfriend got a discount tickets and we really didnt think that this place would be so amazing. We went there with a local bus no. 42 from Opicina and the ride was about 25 min long.

incredible gem in trieste

Although we walked to the wrong location (CAVA ROMANA is not actually where the cave is located), with the help of the locals we showed up almost 45 mins late for our tour. While we waited for the group to return, two Italian ladies fed us and gave us water. The tourguide returned and although it was his lunch break, he took the five of us down into the caves. Everyone was so accommodating and made the experience unforgettable. The caves were unbelievable. As long as you map out where to go from the bus directly after you get off, it will be a highlight of your trip!
