Lovely little piazza and sweet little church in grey and white marble

We come across this little piazza and enjoyed interacting with local family. Nearly is a confectionary store that has been in the same family for generations.

This is an exquisite banded marble church at the confluence of a maze of small streets. The fact that these treasures lurk among the maze is part of the wonder of Genoa.

Nice place to visit on a walking tour of the city centre. Impressive looking building head round at sunset and the colours are impressive.

Genoa is a labyrinth of little streets that seem to go from nowhere to nowhere. This will be the first square you come across as you leave the central district near the cathedral. There are very good restaurants near here.

Its small and beautiful church located in Genoa. I think its buit in 12th century. Many a time we came across and see this architecture while going through Piazza dele erbe or Piazza de ferrare. Its architectural jewel located on street and in one of the main city area.

This beautiful little medieval square in the historical center used to be the private property of the powerful Doria family who ruled Genoa until the end of the 18th C. The Romanesque style Church of St. Matthew was built in 1125 by Martino Doria to be the private chapel of his family. Gothic elements were added during the renovation in... More

Church San Matteo was completed in 1125, as evidenced by the medieval black and white marble horizontal striped façade from that time period. The square is made up of several striped façade buildings like the Palazzo di Andrea Doria and Palazzo di Lamba Doria. If you are lucky enough to find the church open for a visit, you will be... If you have the chance to come here and enjoy this marvelous place, this is going to be a wise choice, San Matteo square being located at the core of the historical centre the so called ''Caruggi', very beautiful old style churches and the unique atmosphere of these narrows roads that makes part of the wonderful Genoa's unesco heritage.
