We joined many others who were enjoying spending part of a day in this small and very scenic waterfront village. The setting is postcard beautiful. We sat on a bench in the harbor, strolled the alleys and streets, sat at an outside table having drinks, and marveled at the hoards of others doing the same. Thankfully, we skipped the sardine... A very exclusive little bay, with great yacht marina and high end shops. During my visit there, Giorgio Armani's yacht was docked and the famous designer was sunbathing on the deck.

If you go to Portofino the best views are from the water, we took a boat from Santa Magherita Ligure, the boat drops you at the small harbour of Portofino. It is crowded but quickly people spread. We walked to the light house, which is a nice walk where you have good views on the town. Unfortunately the cafe was... More

This is our second visit to Portofino. It is one of the most beautiful water views in the world. Do not miss this Italian treasure.

Walking routes are excellent. Beautiful views, forests, cliffs, bays with swimming possibility. Unfortunately there is no classification of route difficulty. Route after "Batterie" place towards Cala dell'Oro turned very hard. There were metal chains fixed to the rock to be used as support. A lot of trekkers had to return back. Pity.

I can only think that this case is an example of the emperors new clothes! After seeing it raved about in numerous guidebooks we joined the tourist throngs on a boat to Portofino. Whilst it's not unattractive the small harbour is claustrophobic with boats, many ugly glitzy yachts and it's hard to move up the tiny, not particularly quaint streets.... More

We were there on a weekday in September. What a beautiful area for a boat tour. My one recommendation would be to forget the tourist-dense tiny town of Portofino, and go to Santa Margherita or San Fruttuoso instead.

It's a half day's program. A very nice pier of yachts and restaurants and brands. We've had a very nice walk, and an amazing sea food lunch with a lot of white wine. I forgot the restaurant's name. It's the first one on the right pier side.

What a fantastic little village this is, beautifully picturesque. We walked around the coastline from Santa Margerita which was lovely all the way along and only took just over an hour. Could have easily spent alot longer here. We then got the ferry back to Santa Margerita where our car was parked and see the town from the sea which... More

We went to Portofino half expecting to find it over-crowded and touristy. But that first sight as the ferry turns into the harbour sweeps away all cynicism. It really is so very pretty. Our first visit was in the middle of the day, so yes, the main square was crowded and touristy, with large groups from big cruise ships milling... More
