This Basilica is amazing in its richness and colors. Entrance is free and you get the clear impression the whole town has been working and contributing to make this Catholic Church as glorious as possible. Different times, but one must see to appreciate Christian tradition and what it used to mean.

From the outside this basilica is Romanesque and does nor suggest the stunning baroque interior. Oddly it is situated beside a cathedral and on the other side there is another church. There must be an intriguing story behind this.Inside there is little information on the history and artworks that make up one of the most impressive churches in Northern Italy.... More

The church of Santa Maria Maggiore is absolutely stunning. The outside of the building is fabulous, but totally undersells the interior which is breath taking.

Something a bit different! A colourful and extensively decorated church. Far outdoes the cathedral next door. Italian churches can get a bit repetitive but this one was built to impress visitors.

This place looks rather ordinary from the outside, like many of places we have visited but inside its like a Tardis, stunning architecture and wall/ceiling art, beautiful altars etc. Wow.

Unusual place, with soul. I have never seen tapestries in an Italian church. Beautiful bas-reliefs on the ceiling, unusual confession. I recommend

This was the highlight of the trip to Bergamo. It is so beautifully decorated. I didn't expect much and I was so impressed. You must visit it otherwise your visit won't be completed. Highly recommended.

I wasn't aware of this Church before I visited Bergamo but I have to say it is one of the most beautiful buildings I have seen. It may look similar to many other Churches from the outside but the interior is wonderful. This was probably the highlight of my trip to Bergamo.
