Then I finally reached this place, I could get very good view of the city and nearby cities. Good place for taking panoramic photos. There are some benches, so you can relax here for a while. The place doesn't seem to attract a lot of people, but it is worth to climb here.

The tourist office in "citta alta" offers free tours up Gombito tower. Check their website for more details. You will be rewarded with an amazing view of historic Bergamo. As we were there it was raining and even then it was a great activity even if we could only see the immediate vicinity. We'll be back on a sunny day... More

It is 52 meters high and the only privately owned tower still standing. In 1877 it was donated to the town by the then owners and now houses and information center on the ground floor.

The Tower is only open to the public on Monday's and needs to be booked in advance at the tourist information office which is in the same building as the tower. You need to be reasonably fit as you have to climb 263 very narrow steps to reach the top. Once you reach the top the views over the city... More

You don't get much for free these days, but book ahead and you can get fantastic views over Bergamo for just that-zilch! The bottom of the tower is currently uses as the tourist bureau, speakers very fluent in English which helps non-Italian speakers like me. The tower is situated in the middle of old Bergamo (we got there by funicular).... More

Situated in the tourist office is this strange tower, very common in northern Italy, which were the status symbols of their age. This one built in the 12th C is largely an empty shell containing wooden stairs with great views and completely free. You will need to book and parties restricted to about 10 and led by a largely non... More

But it's a long way up if you are not fit! Friendly guide. You need to book in advance in tourist office as numbers are limited to 10 per visit. Plenty of time at the top to look at 360* panorama and take photos.

It's a hard climb up all the steps to the top, but so worth it for the super views over Bergamo. You have to book a visit as a guide takes you up, and they only allow a certain number at a time. She also gave a running commentary about the history of the tower which was interesting. Well worth... More

Only 10 people are allowed to get in at a time, and as far as I know, tours take place only at 10 am in the morning - so you must book early to be able to climb it up. While climbing up, you will be given time to rest and while doing so, the guide will explain the history... More
