We wandered around the Villa for about 2 hours whilst staying in Varenna and were intrigued by the wonderful gardens surrounding the Villa Monastero. We went inside the villa itself but that was less inspiring than the array of plants in the gardens.

Enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the lakeside garden on a sunny autumn afternoon. There are many trees and plants from around the world including enormous pomelo. Beautiful views of the lake. The house was closed when we visited.

Incredible how such a glorious garden has been crafted on such a narrow piece of land adjoining the shoreline. Make sure you walk to the very end. At every stopping point there are breathtaking photo opportunities. Lovely statues abound. Definitely worth making time for!

This is a muss-see for all the flora lovers. Apart from the wide range of exotic and European flora, there is a number of terraces to enjoy the views of the lake. It is a narrow but long garden (2 km long) so ideal for...More

Spent a couple of hours here. The villa is beautifully done, lots of marble. The gardens are extensive and artfully done. One of must see spots if you're coming to Varenna. A nice place to relax.

Visiting here made a highlight of our trip to the Varenna region. Stunningly attractive terraced gardens and the villa is magnificent. Completly worth it.

Located at the far south end of town, this sparkling jewel of Varenna is worth the trip. A sunny day brings out the painters, writers, and photographers to this lakeside monastery built at the end of the twelfth century. Though certainly not the optical feast...More

This was a really nice place to visit. I'm not really into gardens and old buildings but this was a bit different than most probably because of its location. Everything here is very well maintained and on the day we were there it was very...More

We were staying in Menaggio so we took the ferry to Varenna. This took less than 20 mins and was very cheap and a lovely way to see the lake.
