The civic building in Stresa exhibits about 20 sculptures from the Pietro Canonica collection. This famous Italian artist and composer has a museum at the Villa Borghesse - these 20 or so sculptures are on permanent loan to Stresa. You can check them out and times the exhibition is open in the brochure on the Stresa Tourism website

We spent almost 3 weeks away with guides along the way. When we met Daniela in Stresa I liked her from the start. Daniela is such a great tour guide, giving us options and suggestions of where to go and what to see both while with and without her. I feel we saw everything and did not leave a stone... More

We booked a trip to the two islands via our hotel reception ( Regina Palace Hotel ) the prices for two people was euros 24 - cash only. The boat visits Pesecatore first - probably the best stop for lunch, with multiple options to eat on the island. Otherwise not a lot going for it - apart from numerous gift... More

This was a full day trip organised through our tour operator though I think it can be booked locally in Stresa. This trip went via the Simpion Pass to Zermatt via coach and then the Matterhorn railway. Took about 3 hours with a photo/coffee/comfort stop. At Zermatt we chose the optional funicular railway trip to Sunnega. From here we had... More

There are a few companies wanting to ferry you to the three islands around Stresa: Isola Bella, Isola Pescatore and Isola Madre. All cost about the same (E15) and offer the same service etc. It is what it is, a reasonable way to get to the islands. The islands are visited in order, and you don't have to get off... More

A visit to Lake Orta is also a must do – it is gorgeous. If you have a car, no problem, but beware the organised tours and public bus services. One of the tour companies told us that the public bus did not run in school time – NO, it’s all year round. An organised tour will cost 39 Euros... More

But one or 2 days enough. Apart from islands and several old hotels there is not much to do. 2 days will be enough for those who want to explore Italy. Lots of restaurants but quite different from my previous travles in Italy, Verona, Bergamo and Naples. It seems to lose its authenticism. But the lake and its view are... More

We got to go on a private boat around the Islands. Reasonable pricing, and came back every hour to collect, so didn't feel rushed

Coach excursion disappointed as no warning was given of difficult access to lakeside from coach park and negotiating steep, very long flights of steps, followed by long, narrow pathways spoiled the day. The lake and Island are gorgeous to see.
