Found this museum by chance and it is well worth a visit, only 2 euros! I knew little about the Risorgimento and this museum really bought it to life, the unification of 'Italy' from a number of states with some excellent art and descriptions (all in Italian), made a change from Madonna and Child art! Collection of paintings, weapons, uniforms... More

To know how the country was unified, this is the place. With amazing paints, original uniforms and weapons

This is a very nice collection of historical pieces from the last couple of centuries. They have some of Napoleon's artefacts, including his crown and scepter as king of Italy, which I find most interesting. There's also a nice little courtyard but it's a pity that it wasn't accessible during my visit. All in all, this is a great museum,... More

Staying in Brera

Neighbourhood Profile
Brera
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
