First night in Milan we took the metro to Piazza del Duomo. Vibrant square with the magnificent Duomo cathedral in the centre. Busy and bustling, well lit with lots of shops. Plenty to see and take pictures. In fact we even saw a street rave with a DJ and an entire ensemble of dancers dancing in the street. Fabulous entertainment,... More

The day after the Pope's visit the piazza was full of, mainly young, people enjoying themselves. Young families meeting up and generally promenading, together with visitor groups. The atmosphere is happy. Attention does need to be heeded to those whose intentions might not be quite so honest though in all the crush. The subway can be accessed from here.

From all sides fantastic architecture. True beauty and it's a pity it's so busy full of tourists as it would be a fantastic place to sit and contemplate if less busy.

At 6:30 PM, when I step up the metro station, I got perplexed with the extreme beauty of DUOMO architecture. Actually, the hole square is amazing! The Vitorio galery is also great, with many fancy restaurants and coffee shops. Specially, when you get close to DUOMO you understand why it took almost 300 years to finish it. So many details.... You have to go and experience the 600 years of building this place. It is grand and you have to look around, even though I do not like churches that much because I get bored, this place was so big it is a must see. The roofs arery cool, you have to see the city from the top. Go early,... More

The Duomo obviously dominates this piazza; it is worth walking around it and also seeing it at night. The monument and Galleria complete the landscape for many picture opportunities.

I love this place a lot. It's always full of people and I love it. There are pigeons everywhere and they make the square look much better. The Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele II Galleries are there too.

just out of the metro, you step into this huge square. facing the Duomo you have such magnificent view, many fashion shops nearby on the other side. just want out those people trying to help you get a picture of pigeons on your hands or head. they will ask for 20 euros for helping you 2 minutes.

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
