The complex of vineyard and gardens was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, on the model of the Roman villas, by Prince Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia. After his death (1657) there followed decoration campaigns for the wife Ludovica and, at the end of the century, for Anna d'Orleans, the wife of Vittorio Amedeo II, Duke of Savoy. The apartments and gardens of the Villa, referred to as those "of the Queen" after the Duke of Savoy took the royal title in 1713, were modernised by Filippo Juvarra for Carlo Emanuele III. In the middle of the eighteenth century stables and service buildings were put up. In 1865 Vittorio Emanuele II gave the residence to a female school (Istituto Nazionale per le Figlie dei Militari Italiani), which was active until 1975. Since 1994 restoration work have been carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The Villa has been open to the public since 2006.

It’s a great place to visit but I guess it’s much nicer when it’s light and sunny. We visited villa on a very cloudy & gloomy day which took a part of its charm. However, we truly enjoyed visiting the inside of the villa and the gardens around. The entry is just 5 euros which is a very reasonable price.... More

Visited one early May morning and my Mamma and I were the only ones there! I don't think it is yet on the main tourist map and is free to visit an d interesting and manageable in an hr or a little more. Positioned pleasantly just above the city on a rise on the other side of the Po.

This is a lovely Villa, tucked away just behind the city and easily reached by bus. Apart from a visit of the villa and the gardens, in the summer months there are free classical music concerts performed in the garden - really lovely!

A villa with a great view on the city and some area to walk around. The rooms are pretty impressive especially when the artists played with volume in the decoration of the walls. Though the villa and gardens (if you can call it that, it is more like a lawn) are relatively small and will take 2 hours maximum to... More
