The area
Neighbourhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

My second trip to the gallery was in June 2016. The curator is most accommodating and very knowledgeable. Beautiful displays of contemporary art from some of the most talented and innovative artists. Totally unpretentious and very comfortable. You can buy some wonderful pieces at excellent prices or just enjoy walking through and experience the amazing talent of the many contributing artists. Well worth the trip to Giudecca, and you can enjoy the surrounding area on a leisurely walk along the canal.

If you get the opportunity when in Venice, be sure to visit an art museums many of which are free entry.

Not only do they offer a respite from the heat, but if gives you the opportunity to see some amazing art. You do not have to be into art either to enjoy the experience.

Gallery 795 was such a great find! We happened in yesterday afternoon while wandering around Giudecca, the artwork was excellent and the gallery attendant (perhaps the owner?) was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. We bought some beautiful glass jewelry and were given an extra pendant, for free!

In early August 2013 I was lucky enough to be in Venice for a week. On my last full day there I ventured out looking for a reliable place to get Murano glass for a gift for someone, and also explore Giudecca. The gallery was a welcoming stop in a quiet walk around the neighborhood over there, and the space intriguing. It had personality, and instantly I could see that the location could easily be a place to host get-togethers as well as showcase art. The building itself was art, and the hostess, Rosalba, seemed about as genuine as any person I'd ever met. I'd heard stories about the glass and how tough it was to tell it from the fakes, how the artists were not all buying into the official stamps/insignia that the government offered for genuine local artisans, etc. She had the correct rap, and was informed about lots of art-related happenings, had good advice for restaurants and places to wander, and I bought a lovely piece of glass there, after realizing this was the place to do it. No sell, no pushy vendor. Just a classy, welcoming and charming spot to browse art or grab an artful gift for a friend. That area in general seemed very full of people living. It was a treat to spend time on the Giudecca and in particular this special spot. I wish them much success.

I visited Giudecca 795 Art Gallery in November 2011, and look forward to visiting again this year. The gallery is intimate, well-organized and beautiful with engaging contemporary art in nicely thought-out displays. The owner/curator, Signora Rosalba Giorcelli, has a fine eye for unusual artists and their work, and the exhibitions are thoughtful and presented with intelligence and care for the artists and their art. At the time I visited, an exhibition for the artist Simona Bramati was in the process of being organized, and yet despite a busy time, Signora Giorcelli took the opportunity to personally give me a tour of her unique gallery and her hand-selected "finds". I highly recommend this gallery for those interested in unusual points of view, fabulous exhibitions and warm, friendly attention from the owner.

It is nice to find a real and interesting art gallery in Venice, in Guidecca and not one of those spaces where pictures and souvenirs are just hanged up and called them selfves Art Galleries.
The shows at Guidecca are always interesting and fun and some of their artists can be a good investment.
We live in Padova and when we go to Venice we always check the gallery to see what is going on...and enjoy the view !!!
