Marco guided us in a small group of 6 through the St. Marks Basilica, the terrace and Doge's palace. He made jokes and could tell us everything about the places we went. The way he was telling was very interesting and funny, that made the total tour very much fun. The tour took about three hours. Definitely take this tour... More

We LOVED our tour and thought our guide (Christina) was just lovely. It was fun how much history was intertwined with the fun tastings. All our kids enjoyed it as well which is never a given for our family! (Kids ages: 19, 17, 15, and 10.) Everyone said this was one of their favorite things we did over our week... More

We booked the after hours basilica tour which turned out to be an amazing choice. Even in winter there are hundreds of people in line all day long. There were 12 of us and we had the entire basilica to ourselves. Incredible! "Moses" the tour guide was spectacular. He was well educated yet engaging and could answer every question. The... More

We lucked out and had a total of 3 people on the tour - we were there during the off season and that is the best way to see this small island. Moses' was excellent at answering all our crazy questions and providing very interesting tidbits about daily life in Venice along with the historical information. Having a guide with... More

Sister and I took full day (Morning and Afternoon) walking tour of Venice. Hosted by Federica Fresch who is a 4th or 5th generation Venetian who lives and raises her family on the island. She was absolutely wonderful, with her explanations of history, architecture, daily life, water, water and water!!!! Her personal experiences added so much to the adventure, especially... More

I took the Venice Food Tour with a friend while visiting Venice, and it was the highlight of our three-day stay in the city. Our guide, Christina, was lovely and extremely knowledgeable about Venice's history and its food. The food and drinks that we enjoyed at each stop were delicious and authentic. The walk around the city helped us understand... More

We really enjoyed this tour! It is amazing to walk into this beautiful basilica after all other guests have left. There are a few tours that begin at the same time, but it is much less crowded than during the day- promise! Once we walked into the main part of the basilica, the lights were off and we were asked... More

Roberta was our guide for the Venice food tour Rialto market. She did a fantastic job and the tour was a highlight of the trip. We enjoyed strolling through the food market and learning about the different food items. Roberta's insight on how Venetians eat and shop was both informative and interesting. The stops for a glass of wine and... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
