Where on earth did they find these musicians? They were not able to play a single piece in tune, and it was painful to listen to. Our son, who is a violinist, sat there in disbelief. If this had been the neighborhood's 12 year-olds coming together to play in a quartet it would have been fine (and you might have... More

The Vivaldi concert was so out of tune in some spots my whole body cringed in response like hearing chickens getting abused. It was ok for the most part but some notes were horribly out of tune and there is no way you can skip over it. Vivaldi is one of my favorite composers and I was looking to hearing... More

Lovely evening performance of Vivaldi would definitely recommend. We were impressed the quality of sound and found it great value.

I would defiantly recommend doing this in Venice. The scenery- being in the prison wAs fabulous and the sounds beautiful echoing off the walls. The orchestra were fantastic and hugely talented! A must do! Even if you didn't know the artist- you'd recognise the music.

This was just beautiful, and one of the highlights of my time in Venice. The setting made it extra special too. There was no singing at the concert I attended so I cannot comment, but the music was outstanding and it was excellent value for money. I would love to attend another one of their concerts if I ever return... More

Fabulous music in a unique setting. The musicians are quite good and their sound resonates in the setting of the Palazzo delle Prigioni. It vibrates with feeling and will fill you with joy.

Okay it wasn't La Fenice but they could at least have tried. Surely there must be oodles of would-be opera singers looking for opportunities to earn a few Euros? There could have been a modicum of atmosphere (candles don't cost much). Perhaps even an attempt at an introduction? The female singer gave it a good shot. She smiled and seemed... More

Although locals are probably overdone, for we tourists, hearing Baroque on a balmy summer night in the Prigioni was bliss. 3 violins, a viola, cello , and bass were sublime. As well, the performers were 100%, despite the somewhat well worn pages of Vivaldi. And to top it off, 2 encores to a small audience of internationals who could not... More

The concert at the Palazzo Delle Prigioni featured opera singers with piano accompaniment performing the most famous opera arias from Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Don Giovani, Cavalleria Rusticanna, Vedova allegra and other selections as well. What better way to spend a Tuesday or Thursday evening in Venice. The concert starts at 9PM on Tuesday and Thursday and Friday at... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
