I did a week of classes here and had a truly wonderful time. The teachers are excellent and I was so impressed at how much we got through in a short time. As a beginner, I really didn't expect to learn as much as I did. The school has a super friendly vibe and everyone is made to feel at... More

I just completed a 2 week course at Venice Italian School. About 3 years ago, I had taken some private lessons with Diego and wanted to go back to experience a course. The school is family-owned and small. That's a good thing for class size, which for my course averaged 5-6 people. One thing to consider if you've reached a... More

When I decided that I wanted to study Italian in Italy, I searched long and hard for a suitable school. In Scotland, there are few direct flights to Italy, so that narrowed down potential destinations. My friend and I have always loved Venice and the Venice Italian School seemed to meet our needs. The class sizes are small and the... More

This program is extrememly well organized and educational! I had four 1/2 days of small group instruction. We experienced 3 different instructors. Each was skilled, friendly and encouraging. Their methods brilliantly encourage language learning. I hope to take one of their cooking classes as well. I highly recommend this program for excellent language learning opportunity!

This is my second time at this lovely school in Venice. I feel very encouraged in this environment, and there is a noticeable improvement in my Italian (particularly comprehension) over the three weeks I am here. I am also more aware of language learning strategies that are critical outside of the class situation and the Italian speaking environment. The school,... More

I returned this year having had such a good experience in September 2015 and once again all my expectations were met. Small classes, excellent teachers, compatible groups, competent teaching styles supported by variable aids and Fun. Classes in the sunshine, staff supported by efficient and caring management. Hopefully I will return next year because Venice is my favourite city to... More

This was a most enjoyable three weeks of small classes (4 at most), with charming extremely patient and skillful teachers. Two teachers teach each group, one for the first 90 minutes, then after a pausa for coffee, the other one up to lunchtime. Each brought their own gifts and talents but they liaised to ensure they worked around what the... More

From the outset , Diego, Lucia and Jacobi set out to make this an excellent, personalised week . Based in small groups ,their tailored , well - structured but informal approach ,with plenty of variety and fun really ensured we maximised our learning. I also relished the podcast homework (based on class work and designed to help us fine -... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
