If you get a good day, take a trip out to this island. It's 10 euros return which is a bit steep, but we included it in our 24 hour water taxi ticket. The church is beautiful inside and views from the top of the campanile are wonderful. Especially looking back at Venice itself. 5 euros to go up in... More

Lovely trip on the vaporetto (river bus), so you see a lot on the way round. Island is small and the church is free to enter. There are modern art exhibitions and paintings to view. Take the lift to the top of the clock tower (campanile) - 6 euros - the view all around is spectacular. it is cheaper than... More

We went up the tower and the view over Venice is spectacular. Across to St Marks Square and also in all other directions too, worth the small fee to get the lift up there.

Without doubt, my favourite place in Venice, peaceful and beautiful after the bustle - plus the best Venice views from the tower, without queues and with elevator! Also regularly hosts quality art - currently a great retrospective on Cuban Michaelango Pistoletto, better than anything I saw at the Biennale. First stop from San Marco on number 2 vaporetto, that's San... More

This island is an oasis of calm amidst the rivers of tourists flooding other parts of Venezia. You feel it the second you alight from the vaporetto. We enjoyed a quiet walk around the island, and the distant silent views of the Palazzo Ducale. There's a quiet cafe half way down the promenade. The Palladian church itself is well worth... More

We took the boat from San Zaccaria (return tickets cost €10 per adult) and it took around 3-4 minutes to get to the island When we arrived we wandered around before heading into the church which had some kind of art exhibition (a lot of churches around Venice seemed to have things going on like art exhibitions etc) After a... The view is very unexpected. It's very beautiful. And you don't have to be exhausted to climb as there is a lift.

Get away from the heaving masses by taking the vaporetto to the island. The church itself is a large basilica that appears quite cold, but take the lift (quite expensive) to the viewpoint in the belfry. Beware of the bell clanging next to you every 30 minutes!

Caught the no. 2 vaporetto from San Zaccaria just east of San Marco. Paid E6 & went straight up the bell tower. 360 degree views, with San Marco area looking fabulous. Bells rang for 11o'clock & I almost lost my skin! Beautiful views of the church gardens below. Big yacht harbour. Couldn't find a way south from the church as... More

The tower of San Giorgio Maggiore is easily reachable from San Marco. It is the first stop on the vaporetto line 2 (stop is called San Giorgio). There were no lines, we walked straight in, bought a ticket and went up in the lift. Beautiful views from the top of all over Venice.
