After reading several forum posts and views we decided to skip the line to St. Mark's tower and take the vaporetto out to San Giorgio. The church is beautiful and even better is the elevator ride to the top of the bell tower with a...More

I nearly missed this place and was so glad I took the vaporetto there. Take the lift to the top of the tower, it was way quieter than St Marks Campanile when I visited (you have a clear space for photos from all directions rather...More

If you get a good day, take a trip out to this island. It's 10 euros return which is a bit steep, but we included it in our 24 hour water taxi ticket. The church is beautiful inside and views from the top of the...More

Lovely trip on the vaporetto (river bus), so you see a lot on the way round. Island is small and the church is free to enter. There are modern art exhibitions and paintings to view. Take the lift to the top of the clock tower...More

We went up the tower and the view over Venice is spectacular. Across to St Marks Square and also in all other directions too, worth the small fee to get the lift up there.

Without doubt, my favourite place in Venice, peaceful and beautiful after the bustle - plus the best Venice views from the tower, without queues and with elevator! Also regularly hosts quality art - currently a great retrospective on Cuban Michaelango Pistoletto, better than anything I...More

This island is an oasis of calm amidst the rivers of tourists flooding other parts of Venezia. You feel it the second you alight from the vaporetto. We enjoyed a quiet walk around the island, and the distant silent views of the Palazzo Ducale. There's...More

We took the boat from San Zaccaria (return tickets cost €10 per adult) and it took around 3-4 minutes to get to the island When we arrived we wandered around before heading into the church which had some kind of art exhibition (a lot of...More

The view is very unexpected. It's very beautiful. And you don't have to be exhausted to climb as there is a lift.

Get away from the heaving masses by taking the vaporetto to the island. The church itself is a large basilica that appears quite cold, but take the lift (quite expensive) to the viewpoint in the belfry. Beware of the bell clanging next to you every...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Do I need to purchase two vaporetto tickets to visit San Giorgio? (One to get there from San Zacharia and a different one to get back?). Or can I use the same ticket to return if still within the ticket's time limit? I do not wish to buy a day pass. Thank you

We always buy a vaporetto ticket for the week we are staying in Venice so I am not sure about the ruling on two separate trips. I my view it is probably just as cheap to buy a day ticket and you would be able to hop on and... More

We have always visited in November and December so difficult to say but as others have said both would be ideal. From a photographic point of view the early sunrise is particularly good from the San Marco side looking toward... More
