This is off the beaten path, a bridge and a few blocks from St. Marks. The exterior is plain in a quiet square, no stores. But inside it is a wonder of light and art. Paintings cover the walls from floor to ceiling and there...More

If you visit only one church in Venice make it this one. The Bellini Virgin and Child with Saints is one of his very finest works.

Not far from St Mark's, San Zaccaria is free to visit and is chock full of masterpieces by Bellini, Titian and Tintoretto. You can pay to see a chapel to the right which continues the theme, and from here you can also walk down to...More

Chiesa di San Zaccaria is a venitian style in marble with a very nice architecture, precious stones and mural paintings by Tintoretto, very imposant basilica di San Zaccaria.

However, we came upon it, later in the day on a Sunday. It was not open, most likely having done Mass earlier in the day. Lovely from the outside.

A lovely church in a quiet square. The inside is decorated with beautiful paintings. We went to see the flooded crypt, which is tiny but eerily beautiful.

This church is wonderful to visit because there is a large altarpiece here by Giovanni Bellini. It is a beautiful Madonna and Saints, a "sacra conversazione" and one of Giovanni's best works.

Yet another beautiful church, the outside does nto do justice to what is inside. It really is an amazing place.

Visited yesterday. Previous reviews are accurate. I'll add: open only 10-12 & 4-6, so plan accordingly. Also the access to the crypt (which is usually under a couple inches of water but there's a walkway) and the chapel with marvelous paintings costs 1.5 euro and...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri
(districts), and the only one not facing onto the
Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated
within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over
one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime
neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side
streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals
criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a

Hi There I suggest you ring the church on +39 041 522 1257 (open 10- 12 and 4.00pm -6.00pm) There is a very good chance that the respondent to phone will speak English. Don't try to look for a booking in August , they... More
