Friendly and inviting

Happened upon St George's for Pentecost. Service is "high" protocol, but easy to follow and participate in. Comfortable, affable and, in English!

This is a small intimate church in the Anglican tradition. The minister was American, but he seems to be filling in. Elements of the Eucharist were sung. Everyone was very friendly. It is a really nice place to spend a Sunday morning. I certainly didn't feel like an outsider

Worshipped in this lovely church on Christmas morning and received a warm welcome from Rev Stuart Munn the stand-in chaplain. The congregation was a mix of Venice residents and international travellers of various ages. The church perhaps two-thirds full enjoyed a timely message from Rev Munn. Afterwards everyone was invited to share in Panetoni and soft drinks which gave us... More

I surprised my Wife and took us, and the Family, out to Venice to renew our Wedding vows. Everything was perfect, and done with the minimum of fuss. Those associated with the Church were simply fantastic, and so helpful. A wonderful setting for the perfect memory, thankyou to all involved. 100% recommended to all. ps. date not correct

Directions on website good but website out of date and nothing going on except at 1030 on a Sunday and notice board otherwise empty!! Surely the Anglican Church deserves a better presence?

We had a warm welcome and the service on the Sunday morning was very meaningful and led with great sincerity by the chaplain.

I was already looking for a church with English service to attend before coming to Venice and a kind TA member pointed me to this church. It was raining cats and dogs. We just finished an early dinner at Al Vecio Canton and took a vaparetto to Accademia stop to find St George's. it was not easy to find because... More

I've enjoyed all my three visits there. They depend on retired clergy from the UK but I think are able to attract people of high quality. Good sermons! There's a warm welcome for visitors, in my experience, though I can't deny it's rather hot in summer and rather cold in winter.

I don't often visit churches but once I found out St George's was Anglican and I saw it each morning from my hotel window, so I took a ferry over and this church is Spectacular and the main painting of St George is Divine. A grand building and well worth the visit across the Grand Canal.

I contacted St Georges while I served in the Navy to request a surprise Wedding Vow renewel. From the outset the Vicar (sorry, using Navy speak here) couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks to his help, the location, and the amazing atmosphere of the Church my Vows renewel was simply the most memorable day of marrige. My wife, Daughters, and... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
