Recommended by a Venetian friend. Visited with wife and two daughters. Mainly seafood menu, by a quiet canal in one of the less frantically tourist areas. The ambience was relaxed and welcoming, the service friendly, efficient and bi-lingual (good as my Italian is limited), and the food and wine list excellent. I had tuna with pistacchio crust, which was completely... More

This is one of our favourites. Off the beaten track somewhat, it looks/feels untouched over centuries (other than, welcomely, a bright new wc). Locals are the main clientele, and I have a feeling that university staff might be a significant chunk of these. Refectory-style tables are the basic furniture, and so there is a pleasantly communal feel - preferable in... More

6 of us had our B&B make reservations for the early seating at 7PM. I would highly recommend reservations. We ate inside. Seating was cozy. The service staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was to die for. We shared a deep fried calamari appetizer, the our first course was a salad. My main course was lamb which was some... More

Did a quick stop here for a beer and some food. Great service and delicious food. Nice seats outside beside the canal if you can grab one. One of Venice's hidden gems.

This place was described as being off the tourist track and it certainly lived up to its billing. We were the only tourists in a bustling, traditional eaterie filled with Italian families enjoying dinner on a Saturday night. The welcome and service were friendly and warm, and the food, mainly fish-based, was excellent. This is not the place to go... More

Bumped into this place while "getting lost" around Venice. So glad we did!!! All staff are amazing, you can tell that they really care. Had an amazing dish of typical tapas (they explained us absolutely everything about the dish) and loved it so much that had to go back on the same night for dinner. It was a special dinner... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
