This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

This was the last island we visited on our island trip. The parish is lovely to see but there really is nothing else to see. I would not revisit this one again. The other two were great but this one in particular was a long walk form the boat and was not really worth the rushing to see it.

Although it's about one hour away from Venice, Torcello is a quiet island, off the tourist beaten path. The church, which is the oldest in Venice houses a golden mosaic of the Last Judgement. Because they only accept cash, we split our party and two of us went into the church while the other two went up the campanille (otherwise,... More

This is a break from the busy side of Venice. Take a walk to the church and museum and have a quiet lunch while you are there

A place to get away from it all when you're tired of the crowds in Venice. Quiet, almost deserted (in November anyway).

Fantastic boat ride from st marks square to Murano, Burano and torcello this is the birthplace of Venice hard to believe as you visit today used to have some 3000-10000 inhabitants. Beautiful!

We took a longish boat ride to Torcello to view the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. We were delighted by the lack of tourists and the quality of the interior with its Byzantine mosaics on the apse (photos not allowed!). The climb to the top of its campanile was pretty steep but ultimately worth it for the views over the... More

There was not much there. It was included in our tour to Murano. There was a church and a tourist "trap" snack bar and tiny shop.

Torcello is one of the places that I had been wanting to return to for many years, and last year I was able to take my husband and two teenagers with me. We all agreed that it was a hauntingly beautiful, peaceful place, and a great escape from the crowds of Venice. There's no need to go with an organized... More

I adore Torcello. I love the peace and quiet and especially the history of Torcello. Venice is very special to me, having visited approximately 20 times over the years and every time, I venture over to Torcello. It is a deeply haunting small island. I hate to read that some tourists say, "don't bother, not much to see". This makes... More

This is well worth the difficulty in getting to the island. You have to go to Burano first to get a vaparetto to this island but they do run very regularly even in the winter. It is very peaceful and worth spending time here. There are some cafe's, lovely canal walk, a tower, church and museum to look at. You... More
