We enjoyed lunch at this Caffe in Venice. The food and service were good. We sat inside since it was cold on Christmas Eve however, it was easy to imagine what a beautiful cafe this would be to enjoy on a warm spring day.

People coming a going as this is a very busy spot. Beer was cold. They serve you a side of potato chips with your drinks. Okay but not... More

If you get a gelato to go, it's much less expansive than sitting down, which we did. it was good. Before that we sat down for drinks and listened to music and got to see the water. It's not really worth sitting down if you are on a budget. I would get the gelato though! 2 euro!

WIth a captured audience with thousands of tourists this place was a disappointment and wouldn't return. Firstly - toilets were dreadful. Food was okay but very expensive. THe music is a nice touch but at times annoying The staff were lazy and like robots going through the motions.

Please don't be fooled by the grand location! The attitude from the staff was so appalling we did not get as far as ordering anything at this tin pot place. I had gone inside to use the toilet as my husband found a table. I was literally called back from inside by a waiter who told me the toilets were... More

A wonderful place to sit and enjoy a drink whilst listening to the music from the house ensemble. Shame about the toilets however. They were disgusting!!

After dinner we would wander across St Marks Square, and would invariably stop off at the Gran Café. We enjoy listening to its live music, and the cocktails are always good. Service was always excellent. For those reviewers who complain about price. perhaps they should try a café in a side street without live music or the same quality of... More

A lovely cafe on St. Marco (Saint Mark's) Square , Venice. The long cool veranda under the arches looks over the water on the right, & the square plus one side of the Basilica on the left. The waiters are immaculately dressed, the coffee is served on a tray & is delicious. It's also at a perfect temperature, which for... More

This place is extremely expensive... my spritz was 5 times more expensive than my spritz in Lido, and not very good. The waiters were definitely smug and haughty. HOWEVER, the experience made it worth it. To sit and relax in St. Mark's Square, gaze at beautiful St. Marks, listen to classical music, and people watch, it is worth it. (The... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
