We were not able to enter because there was something going on inside the opera house. We heard that it is one of the most prestigious Concert Hall of Venice. We just stayed in Venice for two days and we did not know that there were concerts being held. Maybe in our next visit we should reserve tickets for us... More

Thought I would do something different for Valentines Day this year so flew to Venice to catch a performance for Valentines Day Evening... Alongside my wife and two sons aged 11 and 10 years of age, we visited on the 14th February for the 8.30pm evening performance and paid £140 Euros for all of us to be seated in the... More

One of the highlights of our all too short visit to Venice was a night of Opera at the Scuola grande di san teodoro. The building is breathtaking and the perfect venue for opera.

We passed by the venue many times on our way to our hotel. Purchasing tickets in advance and ease of entry prior to the show is simple and without formality. We heard Vivaldi's Four Season topped by an excellent violin performance. The venue itself is comfortable and the show fairly short - a great start for beginners and a fraction... More

Visited this place when looking for an opera in Venice, and this one was certainly the right pick! Been to other opera houses there before, but this time I loved the production called "I Musici Veneziani" - Baroque and Opera, the most famous Italian Baroque, 17-18 century compositions. Costumes, acting and atmosphere is amazing, this small comparing to any other... More

Barocca e Opera: A very intimate venue - we were on the front row and so very close to the musicians and singers. Without understanding a word of what they were singing, you could follow the story, and they made it entertaining. Be careful if you're in the front row though, you may be pulled up to waltz with the... More

Relatively small chamber orchestra managed to convey a sense of larger size. Very polished and professional. The operatic performers could easily hold their own in any international setting. Although there was no scenery or props, the performers put on a very theatrical presentation which conveyed their characters very well (with conspiratorial winks to the audience, etc.) Tremendous value and hugely... Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
